Director or story writer gets the knot for the movie first, and then develop the story around it. It is the case with almost all the directors and with all the movies (Except Bala movies). A daughter was in search of her mother, who was a warrior and left her daughter just after the delivery. When she meets her mother, she had 17 questions to ask. This piece of news from Times of India became a knot for Maniratnam and become ‘ Kannathil Mutthamittaal’. ‘ Nerukku Ner’ live program of Sun TV was so popular and a thought of ‘ If Rabi Bernard meets state’s powerful party leader cum Chief Minister, how it would be and If he asks these questions, how would it be…’ – become a knot for Shankar- Sujatha and Mudalvan was born.The super star of Tamil cinema Ashok Kumar meets his friend Balan for whom the super star is longing for the whole life. This is the knot. Meena, kids, school principal, Parent-teachers, market people, villagers, Vadivelu and his wife, Livingston and his group, Neighborhood Biriyani family, etc – All the characters in the movie are developed to build the emotions on audience’s heart and helps the movie to run towards the knot in the climax. The original Malayalam story writer has done this work beautifully. And the remake king Director Vasu’s insertion of Rajini image and personal character has beautifully fitting into that. To put in other word, the whole movie prepares your mind to win your heart in the last 30 minutes. Movie has won in that aspect.
Pasupathy and Meena are the actual hero and heroine of this movie. Both of them played wonderful. Pasupathy starts his entry just like that and his character gets developed big and heavy towards the climax. ‘can we run away from here?’, ‘ I lost my sleep after this super star has entered this town’, ‘ Only for telling this It became like this, if I would have shared that..’ – are few examples scenes where he glitters. The climax and scenes around climax loot people emotions.
Meena has courage to accept this role of mother who has three children. She has done beautifully. Vadivelu …his usual ways and usual jokes and people laugh louder.
Nayanthara comes as a heroine for shooting, ‘uricha kozhi’, dances, shows and goes.
Rajini – YES BOSS. What way fans want to see him, it has been given in his entry, on the flying horse with that costume.. Mask of Zorro. Though Rajini is not actual hero in the movie … oh He stands very tall like Everest as his character is described in the movie. My friend who watched with me says after the movie, “Paraman, the same movie is taken in Hindi now. I don’t think SRK won’t fit for such a role. It suits for Rajini for the message he delivers in this character”. (Looks like that why SRK personally called Rajini and asked him not to release Kuselan Hindi version till Billow Barber comes!).
It is Rajini’s real character. A mixture of ON SCREEN and OFF SCREEN roles. He comes as his life. And most of the dialogues are written based on his original story. “Drama about Dhryodhana, going to Chennai for film, Why he goes to Himalaya, What is the difference between ‘ Nimmathi and Santhosham’, Why is he not coming into politics, then why he speaks such a dialogues in the movies, reading of OSHO books in the shootings break, I don’t like you hitting my fans who come to see me, What is the important of the friends and company, what is the greatness of the teacher in life…” – are just examples about his real life matters inserted in the movie beautifully by Vasu. Specifically the discussion between Director Sundarrajan and Rajini “ Yenna mayithukku nee arasiyalukku vara maattengra sollu !?” scene is used properly.
Importance of friend and the expression of gratitude for the friend, What a teacher is doing to you, important of teachers in our life, Mata-Pita-Guru-Deivam and Rajini’s new defined Mata-Pita-Guru-Friend-Deivam is great.
Rajini’s all the scenes and his dialogues are just beyond the cinema dialogues. The school function speech makes people cry. And the climax scene pushes more.
Minus points:
1.Movie goes slow for some time (then it takes off!)
2.Nayanthara’s rain song. Looks like Director got her cal sheet and decided to use maximum out of her.
Plus points:
1.Rajini
2.Emotional appealing scenes of pre-climax, climax and post climax scenes ( last 30mins wipe out all those minus points of the movie).
3.Insertion of Rajini’s role and presenting his real life character with those scenes within the given frames of time.
Chandramukhi – 2, vettaiyan role, redefined Anna malai role – are skills of Vasu.
Kuselan: You will enjoy and the way it falls from mind to heart is beautiful. You can watch.
