“Pollaathavan பொல்லாதவன்” - Movie Review

From www.manakkudiyan.com :

Keeping old movie titles and re-mixing old songs become new trend now. This movie has come with Rajini’s film title and re-mixed song (why do they use Rajini stills in the poster?).

Along with Dhanush, Kannada Divya, Malayala Murali, there is a special character called Bajaj Pulsar bike. It makes the hero yearning, make him happy, makes father to feel proud, friends to search for, makes the heroine to attract, knots the hero with Dada’s, gives the view of Puthupettai, Kasimedu and Royapuram. The bike travels with the story line till the climax. And for the hero and his friends Bike is more than anything. New and good try.

Though the story line goes with ‘Parattai Yengira Azhagu Sundaram’ or Kannada ‘Jogi’, it has been given well.

G V Prakash has taken an English song and given for Tamil audience. Anniyan’s influence is there on re-recording. Songs disturbs the pace of the movie, especially the second half.
Divya reminds her grandpa S.M. Krishna. She comes, dances, cries and goes. (What else to expect?) ( S M Krishna kku pombala vesham potta maathiri irukku, Moodum varala, feelingum varala !)

Dialogues are good especially with Dhanush, Karunas and friends scenes.
Banupriya – Amma.. .. Oh! What happened to her voice?

Dhanush again proves his acting skills. He swings his body, dances, fights, cries, laughs and acts. Dhanush scores with his as usual good facial ex-pressions (Maniratnam sir, Cheran sir, Shankar Sir and all directors…. Here is a good actor, give him a chance!).

Daniel Balaji is okay, but his brother Selvam role has been given beautifully and the actor also scores well.

Director brings Puthupettai, Royapuram –Kasimedu in front of us. Who told this is first movie to Diretor Vetrimaran. It does not look like. He has presented a simple story in a different way. Good show director.

Weakness: 1. since it is story of Rayapuram –Kasimedu type, everywhere aruva, kathi, vettu and blood. 2. Songs and re-recording. 3. We can judge ‘Selvam - Ravi’ Brutus type of murder.
Pluses: 1. Dhanush. 2. Photography. 3. The way story was given without boring.

Pollaathavan: Fast, non-boring (except few songs) movie. Usual story has been given in a good manner with few strong scenes. You can watch.

Yellow Mango...

From : www.manakkudiyan.com :

Disclaimer: This article was originally written and posted on 2nd August 2005 in an e-group. There will be lots of language correction and I know there is high degree of scope to improve. I did not have to re-write the article, just publishing as it was given 2 years ago. Thanks.

Yellow mango
“Wow… They are back. Great”. I was excited to see them back in their usual place. I used to see them almost every time I drive through that traffic signal. I do not know where they stay. I do not know when will they sleep and when will they get up. I have seen them in late nights and also in the early mornings when I come back from my fitness class. Looks like they are couples and sell fruits in their mobile fruit stall near a traffic signal.

When ever I drive through that road some how the mangoes they sell would attract my eyes. Those small-small mangoes with yellow, yellow with red mix and green mix would attract my eyes. It would be great to see multiple rows of yellow and yellow mangoes. I would be telling myself that God is a great artist and how many colors he has made.

When ever I see the mango in their stall, a desire would come in me to buy and to have it. Immediately I would tell myself, “It is summer, hot and by eating a mango body will become hot. Let me not but it now. Let me have it some other time”. This would be the usual thing happening to me. Almost everyday I had seen them near that traffic signal and suddenly they were disappeared. They were not there for an almost a week. I was waiting in that signal today. My eyes went to that side.. “Wow… They are back”. I was excited. Both of them were there and busy on their selling. I looked their stall and I was shocked. “Ayyo..!” There were no mangoes. Those yellow mangoes were replaced with jack fruit and corns. I felt some thing was missing. My signal was ‘ON’ and it was green. I changed the gear of the car and kept moving. But mind was with those missing mangoes.

“I had desires to buy and have those mangoes. And stopped myself saying that it was summer, very hot and mango was also hot. I kept on postponing. Mentally I waited to get summer over. Now summer is over and also the mango season.” I parked the car and walked towards the stair cases. “With my intelligence I decided that mango is not good for health in summer. What I did not realize is mango will be given only in summer and not in winter. There may be some other fruit in the winter. Mango is a gift of nature for us in the summer. It will available only in that time. HE knows when to give, what to give and whom to give. I ignored mango with my small intelligence and actually did not realize that it was given by the intelligence which runs the entire universe. HE might have given it with some purpose.”

I felt bad and started claiming the stair cases. “Like that mango, I might have ignored so many things in life. What is the use of missing some thing when it was available and thinking of ‘If only I would have known this’ later. Some thing is coming to me means, there might me some purpose. Life must be giving some thing to me. Let me not miss that. I do not want to use ‘If only’ later in my life.”

Remembered the wisdom of mastermind… “Understanding the value of something after loosing it – is foolishness. I should know the value of things when I am having it. . Realizing about dad or mum after loosing them is waste.” I was telling myself, “I should know value of things when it is available. Actually by missing that small mango, I behaved like a Big Banana (Alma mater term)”. “Thank you my yellow mango. I will not miss some thing. I will value. Oh my darling wife, my kids I am coming. I do not want to miss this moment”

I rang the bell, my wife opened the door and I stepped inside as a new person with lot of excitement. Kids were busy with their breakfast in the table and said, “Hai appaas”. I saw there and I was surprised.

There….. A fresh yellow mango was kept in a plate on the table!

'Azhagiya Thamil Magan' - Movie Review...

From www.manakkudiyan.com :

Disclaimer: This has been written by taking mid path and no support or not against anyone.

People call him mass hero and they show title as ‘next super star’. But Vijay had a vacuum in his heart for two things. He was yearning for those two things years together.
1. A R Rehman music. 2. Dual role

Think Vijay might have got excited for these two things and did not see anything else. Vijay got what he was looking for, Director got Vijay’s sign-up and we got a movie… the side artists are murmuring towards us, “ Maatnadaa Mavaney..!”.

In 1970s Vanishree did, then MGR did, Sivaji did, Later Kamal and Rajini and Rajini did. Director Bharathan has given the same ‘Aal maaraatta kathai’.

I have to appreciate Vijay. There are lots of improvements in him. Finally he got a good make up man and costume designer. He is doing very well in few comedy scenes of the first half. He dances very well, especially those small movements and few steps in the first song.
Geetha is back again as ‘Amma’. She has done well. ‘Pchhhhhhh Pchhhhhhh’ lip movement during that telephone conversation – 100% K Balachander mannerism. It shows she is groomed by K B.

Actually the movie name should be “Azhagiya Tamizh MAGAL”. Shreya looks beautiful. Again she got one more movie with enough avenues for acting. She scores.

Lyrics writer Pa.Vijay has a sentiment with A R Rehman, the songs starts with ‘ Ma’ will be hit, I expected a song with ‘ Ma’. Yes.. ‘ Maduraikku Pohathedi”. Even though it starts as “ Karpoora Kannigaiyey”, they song name as “ Maduraikku pohaathedi”. Three songs are good - ‘ Yella Pugazhum’, “ Valaiyapatti’ and “ Maduraikku Pohaathedi”. A R Rehman plays with his voice and beat in ‘ Yella pugazhaum..’ song. A R Rehman has given good songs and re recording. But what to do . I am feeling bad for Rehman.
(Can some one ask Vaali and Balakumaran to stop writing hero worship songs and dialogues, Doing to Rajini and Kamal is okay. They do for S.J. Surya, Simbu, now Vijay and tomorrow to Vadivelu and Kanja Karuppu. )

Satyaraj was going up in ladder during 80s, growth was good. The moment he started copying MGR style, the graph went down and down. Vijay has to understand this. Vijay want to become Rajini. It is visible. Garland – walking with the crowd behind, staring the camera and delivering the dialogue, opening song philosophical, cigarette style, those ‘ Vishk Vishk’ sound during hand movements, fighting style – are too much for Vijay.

The second role of Vijay is only with Rajini mannerism. The way he speaks “ ingey Ingey …” in the fight scene and the way she keeps his facial ex-pression when shreya takes him to her house introduce to her father – 100% Rajini mark. Even a kid will say Rajini mannerism. Vijay has to tell himself the dialogue what he delivers in the climax … “ Oruthana maathiri nadikkarathu easy… Vaazharathu Kastam”.

Vijay got A R Rehman + dula role movie and ‘ Theme music song’ for his future clippings in TV channels, Director got Vijay movie chance. For us… we got the comment… “ Maatnadaa mavaney”.

Few scenes are good. Anyway it will be telecasted in TV Channels.

If you are Vijay fan or ready not to see any logic, even then you will struggle in the theater.

“ Azhagiya Tamil Magan” – You will not loose anything, if you miss this movie. You can miss this movie.

Hey my Indians,

Is not a proud moment? Is not a matter to celebrate? Some one from this land is standing tall over jambavan’s of technology industrialists, Sultans who own oil wells and software czars. I am not bursting crackers or jumping on the floor. But feel like!

Heart beat goes “ Hey Hey Hey…!”

From the news :

New Delhi (PTI): Billionaire Mukesh Ambani on Monday became the richest person in the world, surpassing American software czar Bill Gates, Mexican business tycoon Carlos Slim Helu and famous investment guru Warren Buffett, courtesy the bull run in the stock market.

Following a strong share price rally today in his three group companies — India’s most valued firm Reliance Industries, Reliance Petroleum and Reliance Industrial Infrastructure Ltd — the net worth of Mukesh Ambani rose to 63.2 billion dollars (Rs 2,49,108 crore).

In comparison, the net worth of both Gates and Slim is estimated to be slightly lower at around 62.29 billion dollars each, with Slim leading among the two by a narrow margin.

Warren Buffett, earlier the third richest in the world, also dropped one position with a net worth of about 56 billion dollars. Ambani’s wealth of about Rs 2,49,000 crore includes about Rs 2,10,000 crore from RIL (50.98 per cent stake), Rs 37,500 crore from RPL (37.5 per cent) and Rs 2,100 crore from RIIL (46.23 per cent). Slim’s wealth has been calculated on the basis of his stake in companies like America Movil (30 per cent), Carso Global (82 per cent), Grupo Carso (75 per cent), Inbursa (67 per cent), IDEAL (30 per cent) and Saks Inc (10 per cent).

According to information available with the US and Mexican stock exchanges where these companies are listed, Slim currently holds shares worth a total of $ 62.2993 billion, with more than half coming from Latin American mobile major America Movil. Slim is closely followed by Gates with a net worth of 62.29 billion dollars currently.

Do not know about tomorrow. Today matters to me and An Indian on top of everybody. It matters to us and I am celebrating. Are you joining me?

It is not how much you earn...

From www.manakkudiyan.com :

It was my personal trip to Chennai and happened to meet my friend. He requested me to be with him for the next morning pooja at his office premises. I respected his feelings and that’s how I was there on that early morning. The Ganapathi Homam was over, Prasadam was distributed to everyone and people were engrossed with the taste of Saravana bhavan coffee. And I was engrossed with the priest.

Rituals were over and he was doing his packing’s. He looked very thin, wore white dhoti on the waste and thread cross the chest. I was asking about his life and family. He used wonderful flavor of Tamil. He has been given responsibility to take care of a small temple in a nearby street; he does not go to all these kind of poojas. Since his guru was busy with some thing else he has been assigned this one. He has two school going daughters and one son. And his aged parents stay with him. He is the only income source for the whole family. He finished his packing’s, picked up his bag, as he was leaving out, he looked at me and said, “ Last month I bought two grounds of land which is next to Porur”.

I was shaken up. He is not as famous as other busy priests available in the city for Homams in the office; he does not go for marriage rituals. He himself mentioned his income is not so huge and on top of it he has aged parents, wife, school going kids and an infant child. All the money would be going for food, medicines, school fee, glossary and other expenses. How is it possible for him to buy two grounds of land, that too in just next to city?

With the unanswered question inside, I sat in my Honda City and drove to Bangalore. Honda City – is an ultimate car. I enjoyed the drive. I Reached Bangalore at 05:45am and I saw Siddique standing with his white bucket. Siddique comes early morning and cleans my car and bike. Same bucket in the hand, but instead of his usual cycle there was a YAMAHA RX125. I was surprised when he said, “My bike sir, I bought last month!” I was very happy for him. I gave the car key, he moved towards the car and I claimed the staircase.

Siddique works as a labor in a godown. I know he has very less income, stays in a rented house, has a family and school going son. That is the reason he cleans few cars in the mornings and gets Rs.300/- per car. In fact I committed him that I will fund his son’s school fee next year. Suddenly Siddique comes in 125cc bike. It is great.. “But how is this possible?”

I remember my wife was telling once about servant maid who sweeps the floor and cleans the vessels at my home was looking for my help for opening a savings bank account. I remember the farmers in my village kept on working for the whole year, kept on spending money for the crops in the form of urea, pesticide, labor, etc and only once they will get big harvest. It will be once in a year. But… they too educate their son and daughters, build villas and bungalows’ and have all the comforts.

My servant maid is a young widow, has a son, earns tiny amount of money, manages the family and want to open an account for savings. The farmers in the village get once in a year, but keeps for the whole year.

Yes. I got it. I understood what Robert T. Kiyosaki told in his famous book ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’… “It is not how much you earn. It is all about how much you save!”
Yes. It is possible for the priest to buy two grounds of land just next to the city. It is possible for my car cleaner to buy his favorite YAMAHA RX125. I earn in lakhs and pays good amount of tax. They earn very little, may be in thousands. But they have greater plans for the incoming money. They are not strong in earnings. BUT THEY ARE STRONGER IN SAVINGS.
I remember my father was telling my uncle when I was a small boy, “Earning the money is not a big project. But saving the money is very big project. It is some thing like digging a huge well with a needle”. Now I understand the real life of ants.

My servant maid, Car cleaner Siddique, Chennai Priest, farmers in the village and all those people who work in the street has re-phrased the question in me. It is about ‘how much you save?”.

Hey my friend, your daughter, son, wife and family needs financial comforts tomorrow.
I do not ask you how much you earn… I am asking you … HOW MUCH YOU SAVE?

TN Government's new plan to avoid Foot-board Travel

From http://www.manakkudiyan.com/ :

Whether it is a small town or village or city, it is the head ache for the conductors of corporation buses in Tamil Nadu. They are trying all the possibilities to avoid foot board travel. ‘Romeos’ never listened. What to do some of them had taken TICKET for TOP.
The matter is – Tamilnadu Government has come with beautiful idea and the first pilot implementation has been done in ‘Pamban – Verkodu’ town bus. It is amazing; there are no possibilities for Romeos to continue their foot board travel. Look at the photo taken at a TNSTC bus.

ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE FOOT BOARD … You can travel in footboard.
If it is not there … Then ? .

Belt up or Suffer - Video

From www.manakkudiyan.com :

Not only because my past stay in US or it is a rule in Bangalore, I use set belt because I feel it is safe and it is compulsory for me. In fact we were saved in a road accident just because of the seat belts. Car met major damage and we did not have any injury. The reason is SEAT BELT.

There are few people who refuse to use seat belt by saying, “I do not like. I am not practiced to use that. My shirt will get wrinkles”.

I have two things for them.

1. Question - “What is the use of realizing the value of something after loosing it?”
2. .Belt up or Suffer.. <- Click here to watch

The article writer says, “I do not have any personal problem with Suresh Peters. In fact I enjoy all his songs especially the latest one from Sivaji. I was not there with Suresh Peter or with the news reporter. I read the interview, question and answer in the weekly magazine. From T20 World Cup Final....

From http://www.manakkudiyan.com/ :

· The team has won Rs 2 crore in prize money for winning the tournament.

· The BCCI has announced Rs 12 crore for the entire team There is also Rs 15 lakh for each of the members of the support staff of the team.

· Yuvraj Singh gets a special windfall of Rs 1 crore and a Porsche car.

· Sahara the team sponsors are giving a house worth Rs 25 lakh to each of the 15 members of the team.

· Haryana government, which has announced Rs 21 lakh for Joginder Sharma, the last over hero against Australia and Pakistan.

· Jharkhand Ratna award for Dhoni

“ There may be hundreds of thousands of people will claim mount everest. But the history remembers the first person. Yes. That’s the case for T20. The history remembers India and Indian team for T20 very first champions.” – A commentator.

…..…..…..

The whole country celebrates… World cup after 25 years!.

India – Pakistan a nail biting match till last over and last ball. India won the match. It was a wonderful match. Not because India won the match, Pak players also played beautifully. In fact Ravi sastri said correctly, “ Pakistan’s victory was one shot away”. Pakistan team also had almost equal potential of Indian team. When both the team had the almost similar potential and skills, what made India to win the cup?

Contemplated and got the answers …

1. Leadership - When the Pak batsman was blasting SreeSanth’s ball, Dhoni ran to the bowler, boosted him and brought him back. – Leadership, helping people, helping them to bring out their potential and standing for people during the tuff time. That’s the time they need.

2. Composure – Extra composure than Pak team. That made them to be alive till the last ball.

3. Alertness - Whole team was alive and alert enough to act. Alert enough to grab the opportunity every moment. It yielded the last catch.

4. No give up - it is not over till it is over

Yes… I need to be the team man, I need to be there for them when they need. I should have alertness to grab the opportunity. I should have composure and I should not give up mentally. It is not over till it is over.

Chak De India !

“If we implement Sethu Samudhram project, Tamil nadu will get economic benefit and the travel time consuming will be reduced. There is no need for ships to go around Srilanka, they can just go through Sethu canal. ….

… But people oppose this project in the name of God and Rama. Ramayana never happened. It is a myth. Jawaharlal Nehru told that It is an exaggerated story of ‘Arya–Dravida’ clashes. Even Jayalalitha has petitioned in the court to stop the Sethu project implementation.

We have discussed enough about Rama sethu, proof from history and records.
His talk on ‘ Pahuttharivu’ and attacking ‘ People do not have ‘Pahutharivu’ even when they lead a party in the name of Anna who awaken a set of people with his ‘ Pahutharivu’. I got some questions and answer on Pahutharivu and same is the focus of this article.

TN Cinema Awards - Wrong stand...

From www.manakkudiyan.com :

TN government’s 2005-2006 cinema awards …? Tyranny …. Absolutism…. Stalinism…. Despotism…. typical politics!

2005 : Best film : Chandramukhi , Gajini . Best Actor : Rajini Kanth . Best Actress: Jothika. Spl price : Vijay, Surya.

2006: Best film : Veiyil . Best Actor : Kamal Hasan. Best actress: Priya mani. Special price: Karthi.

2005– Awards:

Best film Chandramukhi … ? Ok . Box office hit and crossed 800 days. It is a big record in Cinema industry. Let it be best commercial film.

But… Best actor Rajini Kanth?! He did good and specially the ‘ Vettaiyan role’ of few minutes great. Though Rajini has great potential inside, he has been portrayed as mass hero and he has performed what is expected from him. No question on that. But, in the same year there was an actor who gave a new dimension for acting, made the cinema industry to turn and see, took three different roles with three different mannerisms, made his each hair and cell to express and lived as ‘ Ambi’, ‘ Remo’ and ‘ Anniyan’. The jail scene of the movie was a bench mark for new comers and also for experienced actors. Why Vikram was not even considered?

‘Anniyan’ or ‘ Thavamai thavamirunthu’ should have been selected. The selection parameter might be on commercial box office hit. If it is the case, on the film title, ‘ Chandramukhi’ made a very big record on box office. Crossing 800days is not a small thing. Its okay. But, what about the best actor selection?

Raj Kiran gave his best, lived as a helpless poor father, made people to shed tears in the theater and brought memories of father for each and everyone in the theater. It was just great. Why was he left out?

Special price to Surya and Vijay ? Surya for Gajini – considerable performance. Vijay for what ? Is it for ‘ Vadu maanga ooruthungo song ?’

2006– Awards:

We cannot consider these list of movies for best film as they are neither very good nor big box office hit - Chithirem Pesuthadi, Kokki, Thalainagaram, Parijatham, Dishoom and Thiruttu Payale. Thambi, Perarasu, Em Magan, Pattiyal, E , Tiruvilayadal Arambham , Aathi, Tirupathi, Madrasi, Sudesi, Sillunu Oru Kadhal, Puthupettai ,June R, Jambavan ,Nenjirikkum Varai, Sandakozhi,Thimiru, Sivapathikaaram, unakkum yenakkum.

To be considered are : Vettaiyadu vilaiyadu, Varalaru, Imsai Arasan 23m pulikesi, Paruthi Veeran, Thiruttu payaley. And Veiyil.

They might have selected ‘ Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu’ on commercial hit – 30crores in box office. Let it be.

Ada Paavingala … Kamal has not given his best in ‘ Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu’. Ajith in ‘ Varalaru’ and Karthi in ‘ Paruthi veeran’ gave wonderful performance. No one will be able to forget the ‘Feminine influenced character’ of Varalaru.

Given to Rajini and Kamal is a stunt and pure politics. Government takes wrong side. It is wrong example which will kill the sprouting of movies like ‘ Thavamaai Thavamirunthu’. Rajini – Vikram – Rajkiran . Vikram stands tall and Rajkiran stands closer to him and then Rajini.

Karunanidhi Government simply want to please the Top stars and mass heroes. And do not want to consider the actual best performers. That’s why Vikram is left out and Vijay is given special ward. It is wrong stand and pure politics. I am sure few directors like Cheran will take moral revenge on this.

If Prakash Raj was in Rajini and Kamal position for best actor award, he would have refused the award.

Rajini and Kamal should say no for this awards. Poor fellows .. will they go against the power?

I learnt from A R Rahman...

From www.manakkudiyan.com :

A R Rahman was smiling ….

A R Rahman was smiling ….

I was waiting for my friend to come at his office reception. I removed my eyes from my new ‘Breitling navy meter’ and looked at the other corner; there on that chair … A R Rahman was smiling …

What a smile… What a genius and how much potential he has! Even after reaching the peak, he is still humble and spiritually aligned. What a personality. I was looking there..
A R Rahman was smiling. Smile of achievements.

Mind flied back to the past. A R Rahman related search in the mental database.

Shankar’s ‘Gentleman’ was released and Music was major hit. ‘Chikkubukku Chikkubukku railey’ was murmured in almost all the mouths across the India which made Rahman as well as Suresh Peters famous in the industry.

There were more media lights on Suresh peters. Some naughty reporter asked some question and I still remember Suresh Peter’s reply, “Do not compare me with A R Rahman. He is in the small circle. He is in Tamil cinema circle. My circle is bigger. I am in the Albums and music. Once in a while I will sing in the movies also!”. I was stunned.

But there was no reply or no news on this from A R Rahman. He might have been busy on the other movies.

Suddenly one day …. Sony which make big music albums signed A R Rahman and produced ‘ Vandemataram’. Sony will not sign with any one just like that. Sony released ‘Vandemataram’ simultaneously in 28 countries under Sony Music’s Columbia label. The world went in ‘Awe!’ . And the Album got released… The world murmured ‘ Thaai manney Vanakkam … Maa Tuje Salam’, ‘ Dhouba Dhouba’. The track“Gurus of peace...” ruled Brit people who had ruled India once upon a time.

I do not know where is that Suresh Peter who said “ My circle is bigger. I am in the Albums and music. Rahman is in the small Tamil cinema circle. Once in a while I will sing in the movies also!”.

A R Rahman neither opened his mouth for Suresh Peters nor for the media. But he smashed Suresh Peter.

I remember what I read in the magazine ‘ Frozen Thoughts’, “THE LOUDEST WAY TO TELL THE WORLD SHUT UP IS BY PRODUCING RESULTS!

I do not know what happened to Suresh Peter. But Rahman did not waste his time or energy on back answering Suresh Peters and he did not focus on the media. He showed his performance and launched himself in the higher and bigger level. He shut the mouth of Suresh Peter. Rahman stand tall with his performance.

Bombay Dreams … Sivaji.. Lord of the rings… still he is on.

The Loudest way to tell the world SHUT UP is by producing results!” .

“ Hey machi…” the sound of my friend brought me out from my thoughts and I looked in that corner….. There A R Rahman was smiling.

In the ‘Times of India’ World Space advertisement… A R Rahman was smiling…

Thank you Rahman … Thank you my music director.. I learnt the message.. “LOUDEST WAY TO TELL THE WORD SHUT UP IS BY PRODUCING RESULTS!”. Thank you so much.

I joined my friend and we were walking towards the cafeteria for our Butter salt corn and coffee.

Still in the corner, A R Rahman was smiling …….

One Question… One Answer… One Hope…

From http://www.manakkudiyan.com/ :

One Question… One Answer… One Hope…

One Question…

Jayalaitha’s Period:

“Cheating. Three Channels are available just for Rs.7/- and few other channels are just paid channels. These Cable TV operators are charging high amount Rs.200/- per month. This should be stopped”.
Cho Ramasamy raised his voice. S.Ve.Shekar went on a ‘People rally’.

Suddenly Jayalalitha woke up and came with a scheme that Government itself will take care of the cable network, so that a common man will not pay unnecessary high amount of money for monthly cable charges and all the income will come to Government instead of going to a single private party.

But it was Karunanithi and DMK went against this scheme and did not allow the Jayalalitha Government to bring the scheme.
Karunanithi’s Period:
Headlines - “ Tamil Nadu government to run cable TV. Chennai, Aug 11: In a path-breaking initiative, the Tamil Nadu government Saturday decided to get into the cable television distribution business…”.

Question : Is this to save common man’s monthly budget or to take the upcoming ‘Kalaignar TV’ to everyone? If it is for public benefit, then why it was opposed and stopped when she brought almost a similar scheme with much more benefits to people.
One Answer…

What is happening with Ramadosss?
What ever TN government announces, he opposes. It can be Bus fare, High donation in private medical colleges, TATA’s titanium factory or anything, there is an opposition from PMK.
In fact, If Karunanithi breaths, Ramadosss will make counter movement.
Everyday there is ‘ Dummeeel… Damaaal…” bursting of crackers and sky is full of political fireworks. What is happening with Ramadosss? What is he trying to do ?.

Answer: ‘ Vijay kanth’ is the answer for all the action of Ramadosss. Ramadosss is there in the politics since for many years and struggling to grow the party by cutting the trees and planting the saplings. Vijay Kanth came day before yesterday night and he got high average vote and raising his name in the public.
Now Ramadosss goes rampage on the Vijay Kanth way ‘Oppose things and make statement’.I enjoy the fireworks and lets see where is this heading to…!

One Hope…

Karunanithi - Just announces some thing and withdraws as Ramadosss opposes.
Jayalalitha – Active for two months and walks out for 10 months.
Vijay Kanth – drives on the correct path and with enormous strength and policy.
As of now one hope in TN politics is Vijay Kanth and let us see for some more and conclude…

When i am with nature …

From http://www.manakkudiyan.com/

When i am with nature …

11:16 PM Sunday

Just drove back from Yelagiri hills, a beautiful hill station located between Chennai and Bangalore. Feeling energized, feeling great and feeling top of the world.

This is not just because of my experience with the road side tea master or the evening drive on the beautiful national high way. Some thing else is the cause. This is not my first short break. I have gone on lots of trips and enjoyed lots of holidays at various places and countries.

Whether it was theme parks of Japan or Wonderla of Bangalore or be it MGM of Chennai or snow world of Hyderabad – I have got the maximum out of it and I have enjoyed to the peak. I do not leave a chance. I never wasted a single moments on those artificial beaches or on those artificial ice lands.

Today I have not done much. Parked the car, walked inside the private farm land, claimed on the rocks, experienced the valley, was with the grass and plants, climbed on the jack fruit tree and mango tree, plucked a raw mango and tasted it, sat on a huge rock , lost my self in the sight of the beautiful valley, got up after few hours and drove back home.

I did not do much here today. What was my event participation and activities in those theme parks and water world and what was my activity today at Yelagiri hills – There is a major difference. I did not do much today as compared to those events of theme parks and water worlds. But I am feeling more energized, boosted and more enthusiastic than I felt after experiencing those theme parks and water worlds. Now feeling I am on top of the world. How is this possible? What could be the reason…!?

I got it. When ever I go to any theme parks or water world or any artificial parks, It gives me temporary pleasure and I feel good. It wont long last.

But.. When ever I go in contact with valley, mountain, river, tree, flower, sea or any thing with nature, some thing is happening to me from within. What is available within me and what is available in the nature will get connected. It makes all the difference.

Though I was excited for theme parks and those giant wheels, my inner self feels it is not true and senses all those things are artificial. When I am with nature, my inner self senses the ‘one within me’ and the ‘one in the plant – valley – tree – sea – flower’ are one and the same. It gets connected. I loose myself in the nature. I experience a new experience. When I come out of my experience, I am new, more energized, enthusiastic, boosted and more exited.

I found my way in the valleys of Yelagiri hills. I decided to invest my time in myself and nature. I am on top of the world. When are you driving to your valley?

“Oh Accident – Because of whom?!”

“Oh Accident – Because of whom?!”

I was excited to see my college mate Venkat after many years and shocked to see the bandage in his hand. When I asked him the reason, he replied, “Road accident - A cyclist has come suddenly, I could not control, hit and my hand got fractured”.

Four years ago - Met Maran my class mate at Government hospital, Chennai and felt very bad when listening from him that there were 21 fractures in his leg. Maran went into a slump and said, “I was driving my bike from Cuddalore towards my native. A stupid man came in between from nowhere; I could not control, the vehicle did not stop, hit the slab of a nearby bridge, was thrown into the deep canal which did not have water then and I lost consciousness”.

A couple of months ago - Went for a long drive in my Maruthi Esteem and got into a village. Experiencing the village, villagers and enjoying the different taste of the Tea. When I asked the shop owner why was he limping, his wife poured the anger she had on him in the way she replied to me, “Muscle pull. A man who has given birth to two children did not know how to drive bi-cycle, fell down and now limppppppppppinnnnng”. He had no option but to smile and said, “What will I do? The sloghy edge of the road was slippery!”

Sivaa and I rushed to his residence the moment we heard his wife had met with a road accident. She had bruised her knee and got few cuts in her feet, she was lying down in the soba and it was very visible that she was going through severe pain. We both were standing near the soba and after listening from her everything Sivaa told her, “it is okay. You need some rest. Let the medicine works. You will be alright very soon. I am with you dear. But, you should been little more careful while driving. We should have avoided this accident”. Instantly with louder voice she screamed, “What?! That stupid auto rickshaw fellow came suddenly. What is my mistake in this?”

My college mate – Venkat, Class mate – Maran, Shopkeeper of that small village, this Sivaa’s wife or any body who meets with a road accident invariably tells, “What is my mistake. It happened because of that or because of him...”.

All those who meet accidents tell some body or some thing is the reason. I have a question.

Does anyone have answer for me …!? - “Accident happens – Because of whom?!”

Mahatma Gandhi and my Nokia Phone...

From www.manakkudiyan.com :

Mahatma Gandhi and my Nokia Phone...

It was a big queue of people in the Nokia service center and everyone wanted to get their turn immediately. I was in the queue. Reliance mobile users did not have wider options on choosing the hand sets and I was also happy with my Nokia 3105 then. It was my turn. The man with thicker spectacles, “Yes”.
“I dropped my mobile, it rolled down in the stair case and display vanished. It is under warranty. This is the purchase bill. Can you help me on getting this repaired?”
“Sir, You dropped means it is physical damage. It will not be covered under warranty. Fill this service request form and write that you do not know the cause of this malfunction and mention it happened on its own”.
“Oh… But I do not lie” .
“Boss… Where are you coming from? Just two lines can save your Rupees six thousands. And I am trying to save your money. Did you understand that?”.
“Yes sir… Thanks for that. Is there any other possibility other than this? Because I do not lie” .
“Yow… Innah? Are you normal or some thing wrong inside your head? Okay, do not waste your time and my time. Move out. Thanks”.
As I was pushing the door to come out of the service center, he stopped me with his loudest voice “Hellov” and asked me, “Are you Mahatma Gandhi or what?” and he did not wait for my answer and told the security, “Yei… Kathava thorada… Mahatma Gandhi poraaru!” (Hey… Open the Door for our Mahatma Gandhi).

I stepped out, “What is my mistake? I am honest and I am living with my values. Why there is so much sarcasm in front of people as if I committed some crime” and was going through some thing.I approached almost all the Nokia service centers in the city. The response was almost similar and no one was ready to take the phone for repair.

I did not stop myself, stepped in to the next one and told the girl in the counter, “No display. There is a physical damage. I only dropped the phone, it did not happen on its own, this is the truth and I do not lie. Tell me will you take for repair?” The girl with a smile replied, “Because you are telling the truth, we will take this for repair”. I gave my phone and both of us were smiling. The reason for my smile was “Hey Hey Hey … I do not need to compromise on my values. Truth works. Still there are places and value for my values” and her smile was on reciprocation.

I got a call from Nokia care after 9 days, “Sir… your replacement phone is ready, and you can come and pick up the handset”. I got my new replacement handset.

Years have rolled over.

When ever I see any Nokia service center name board a question comes to me ‘What is the connection between Mahatma Gandhi and my Nokia Phone?’ And the conversion lingers in my mind…..
“But … I do not lie” .
“Hellov! Are you Mahatma Gandhi or what? Yei… Kathava thorada… Mahatma Gandhi poraaru!”

Zen Stories ....

From www.manakkudiyan.com :
Zen Stories

3. Every Minute Zen

Zen students are with their masters at least ten years before they presume to teach others. Nan-in was visited by Tenno, who, having passed his apprenticeship had become a teacher.

The day happened to be rainy, so Tenno wore wooden clogs and carried an umbrella. After greeting him Nan-in remarked: “I suppose you left your wooden clogs in the vestibule. I want to know if your umbrella is on the right or left side of the clogs.”
Tenno, confused, had no instant answer.

He realized he was unable to carry his Zen every minute.

He became Nan-in’s pupil, and studied six more years to accomplish his every-minute Zen.

4. A Cup of Tea

Nan-in, a Japanese master during the Meiji era (1868-1912), received a university professor who came to inquire about Zen.

Nan-in served Tea. He poured his visitor’s cup full, and then kept on pouring.

The professor watched the overflow until he no longer could restrain himself. “It is overfull. No more will go in!” .

“Like this cup,” Nan-in said, “you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup?”

1. How Grass and Trees Become Enlightened

Shinkan came back to Japan from China after his contemplation of Zen over thirteen years.

One day a fifty-year-old student of enlightenment said to Shinkan, “I have studied the Tendai school of thought since I was a little boy, but one thing in it I cannot understand. Tendai claims that even the grass and trees will become enlightened. To me this seems very strange.”

“Of what use is it to discuss how grass and trees become enlightened?”, asked Shinkan, “The question is how you yourself can become so. Did you even consider that?”

“I never thought of it that way,” marveled the student

“Then go home and think it over”

2. Best Piece

When Banzan was walking through a market he overheard a conversation between a butcher and his customer. “Give me the best piece of meat you have,” said the customer.

“Everything in my shop is the best,” replied the butcher, “You cannot find here any piece of meat that is not the best.”

At these words Banzan became enlightened.

The Best Commentary book....

From http://www.manakkudiyan.com/

The Best Commentary book....

Evening, A.R.Rahman’s Gurus of peace track, unlimited wind flow through the windows, clean national high way road , trees and mountains both side, only me and my Maruthi Esteem on the road in the whole region - It was a great drive. I was driving back from my village.
Parked the car to have tea in the road side tea shop, got down, locked the car, sat in the bench and enjoying my cup of tea. Mind slipped in between two sips of tea and ran back towards village and to what happened in the morning …..

‘No one can explain what the meaning behind Thirukkural is better than this. Past or present or future - this is ultimate!’ – The comment of my friend’s father was lingering in the mind.
He is into politics, belongs to a party, he is a speaker for his party and likes literature, books and poems. I met him in his house when I was waiting for his son – my friend. I saw the new book on the table “Kuraloviyam – Thirukkural Commentary by Dr.Karunanidhi”. I picked it in my hand, as I was reading the book his father entered the hall by saying… “Thirukural commentary by Kalaignar Karunanidhi! No one can explain what the meaning behind Thirukkural is better than this. Past or present or future - this is ultimate! Nothing will be better than this”.
I asked him, “When was this done? When did he write this?”.
“I think he might have started writing this at least 10 years ago and got published few years ago”.
The sound “Oei!.. what is the use of keeping you in the shop? There is no improvement. There should be more maturity and clarity between last year and this year” - brought me back to the present and it was shop keeper yelling on his employee a small boy.

I got up from the bench, paid him for the tea and asked him, “What did you say last ..?”
Unknowingly the shop keeper triggered me with his answer and which was enough for me to cogitate, “There should be more maturity and clarity between last year and this year. Is not it?” .
I got what I was looking for …“Yes sir. There will be! Thank you.” And I got back to my car and resumed my journey.

Be it ‘Thirukkural’, “Thiruvasagam”, “Bagwad Gita” “Bhagawatam” or “Ramayana” or be it any book. Whenever some one reads it he will understand it and writes commentary with what he understands. Let it be Karunanithi or some ‘swamiji’ or some disciple. It is the case. No questions on that.

We are human “BEINGS”. We expand every day and in every experiences of life by knowingly or unknowingly. There is a constant improvement in us. The incidents, people, experiences and life keep giving clarity and maturity.

The writer might have read this book and gave commentary based on his maturity level on that day. Today he might have have more maturity and definitely will have more clarity and probably he can write even better and more meaningful commentary for the same source of book.

Swami Vivekananda said, “You read a book at your age 20, you will understand. Read the same book at 30, you will understand more and at forty you will get different meaning and clarity”.
Actor mammooty said in an interview, “When ever I see my old movies, I always feel, “I should have acted even better ..! If I get the same scene and movie today, I can do it at least three times better””

Mani Ratnam said in Vikatan interview, “Movie is my project. I plan it properly. Each scene, explanation, situation, dialogues and everything will be put in paper. Only then I will go for shooting spot. But… I will not shoot the scene in the same way it was put in the paper. There should be at least one percent improvement between what is written in the paper and what is registered in the celluloid. There should be improvement. The director may be same. But the person who wrote on the paper and the person who registers the scene with camera is different and more matured.”

Yes. Everyday we expand and life gives maturity by giving different experiences. The way I did my work on my first day of this job and the way I do today – are not same. I am more matured in that aspect.

Every time I go through the magazine “Frozen Thoughts”, I understand the articles and it pushes me and lifts me higher. But if I read the same page after few months or few years later, I understand it more or getting a different meaning.

I struggled with my car in the roads of Chennai few years ago. Today I can drive in the whole national high ways from Bangalore to Chennai in reverse gear. I am more competent today. The way I delivered my speech very first time on a public speaking competition and the way I roar on the dais today are two different things and there is no matching component in that. I am not the same.

The person who was in the starting point, the person who stands at this point today and the one who will reach some point tomorrow are three different people. I am expanding. I am growing. I am not the same.

It is the case of mine, you, him, and her and of anyone. The writer might have read and understood and wrote commentary according to his understandings on that day. If he reads the same source of book after few years, he will get a different meaning or he will understand more with the higher maturity and clarity.

That’s why for same Thirukkural, totally different commentaries available. There is no matching or similarities in any one of the pages or sections. ‘Parimelazhagar’ is different, ‘Kalaignar’ is different and ‘Sujatha’ is totally different. Same Krishna, same Arjuna, same Krushetra and same Bagwad Gita! But Swami PrabhuPatha’s commentary is different and Raja Gopalachariya’s commentary is different.

Always the commentary is based on how the writer understood the source book then and there is no guarantee that the meaning the writer of the source book wants to give and the meaning given in the commentary will be same.

What should I do then? Should I not read these books of commentary? Oh I will miss so many things then?! No. I should read. Otherwise I will miss treasure like ‘Thirukkural’, “Kamba Ramayana”, “Bagwad Gita”, etc. But with the understanding ‘this is his meaning on that day’. It is not the end. Let me read and understand. I may get a different meaning.

Let me read it today, hold the thread and it may lead to some other point tomorrow.
Now I understand why there is no explanation given with Zen stories. Read the story what ever message you got from the story is for you. Next time you read, you may get different message with higher maturity.

I am walking towards my shelf to pick up last year’s ‘Frozen Thoughts’ magazine. How about you?

Movie ... Good or Bad ?

Just came out of INOX Theater after watching Bruce Willis’s Die Hard 4.

Mouth is murmuring ‘John McClane… McClane!’ and a question rises inside – “Die Hard 4, is it Good or bad?”

Some one may ask me tomorrow – “how was the movie? Good or not good?” Whether it was good or bad was only to me. There were hundreds of people watched the movie in the theater with me. Each and every one will have their own points and opinions, their own like and dislikes about the movie. What they liked in the movie and what I liked in the movie may differ. It may not match.

I watched Matrix-1 and attracted with Morpheus’s character and powerful voice and the friend who watched with me liked agent smith and trinity. Two of my friend watched ‘I-robot’; one did not like the movie and other become fond of the dialogue ‘My father has created me with a purpose’. Same movie, same theater and two different opinions! What scene or dialogue I liked and the other one liked will be different.

Their answer about ‘movie is good or not good’ will not suit me and the same is the case for my answer to them. How can I conclude about movie is good or not good?

I remember even after coming out of the theater ‘Gabbar Sing’ of Sholay was in me. ‘Neelambari’ character of ‘Padayappa’ was there with me for two days. ‘Sithan’ was making those animalistic movements even after watching ‘ Pitha mahan’. There was a lingering question ‘ Neenga Nallavaraaa kettavaraaa ? Theriayalayeppa !’ two days after watching Maniratnam’s ‘ Nayagan’.

‘ Ayyaaa…unga sambalam yevlo innu ?’ – dialogue, Pugazhendi, Aranganar and interview scenes of ‘ Mudalvan / Nayak’ are there still in the mind. The cricket team of ‘ Lagaan’ is still there in the mind. The same is the case with ‘ Chennai – 600028’. The ‘Anita’ character of ‘ 7G Rainbow colony’ is not going out from me. “ ilaaa ilaaa ilaaaa’ dialogue and the uncouth villain of ‘ Vettaiyadu vilaiyadu’ is still sitting in the mind. “ Taprish Aalam’ of “Apaharan’ was there with me at least for a week.

“ Ulley Po” is still making a sound inside from ‘ Badshaa’. There was a change in the way I drove in the road after seeing ‘Die hard 4’. There was an impact on me by the ‘McClane’ character. I got it. The character or story or some thing of the movie should linger in me at least for a day or two. If it is lingering in me, it is a good movie. It has to be in me for a day or two. What I like in the movie and what you like in the movie will be different. But if the movie is lingering in me for a day or two after I stepped out of theater, it is good movie.

‘John McClane… I am coming …’.
